Pictures) The Lost Boys (1987) is a cult classic film that blends horror and comedy, showcasing the story of two brothers who move to a California town and encounter a gang of vampires. With its iconic soundtrack and memorable performances, the film has become a significant part of 80s pop culture. One of the best ‘80s movies ever, The Lost Boys introduced us to David (Kiefer Sutherland), the Peter Pan of vampires. Director Joel Schumacher’s horror-comedy kept vampires terrifying, while also adding the attractive allure that we’ve seen repeated throughout various incarnations. Not to mention, this has one of the best final punchlines a movie has ever landed. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Alexander Skarsgard, with his flowing long hair, is positioned against an unusual red backdrop in the series True Blood. True Blood (2008 - 2014) 是一部美国电视剧,基于查尔斯·斯特罗斯的小说系列。 Adapting Charlaine Harris’ novels revolving around Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), True Blood is an HBO hit that fans still reflect upon. By the end of its seven-season run, the small town of Bon Temps encountered sultry romance, dark comedy, and terror at the hands of werewolves, fairies, and witches. But the bedrock of this series has always been the social commentary told in a world where vampires are widely acknowledged…and are naturally persecuted. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Warner Bros.) Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994) For a performer as versatile as Tom Cruise happens to be, it’s still a disappointment that he was never given the chance to return to the role of Lestat de Lioncourt. Interview with the Vampire’s 1994 film adaptation saw Brad Pitt play the forlorn Louis de Pointe du Lac to Cruise’s chaotic sadist, and the contrast is amazing to watch in action. Also, Kirsten Dunst lands one hell of a breakout performance as Claudia, making this disturbing vampire family complete. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Columbia Pictures) Fright Night (1985) is a classic horror-comedy film that tells the story of a teenager who discovers that his new neighbor is a vampire. As he tries to convince those around him of the supernatural threat, he enlists the help of a television horror host to confront the sinister creature. The film blends humor, suspense, and supernatural elements, making it a beloved entry in the genre. Charley Brewster (William Ragsdale) was your typical ‘80s movie teenager…until Jerry Dandridge (Chris Sarandon) moved into the neighborhood. Director Tom Holland’s vampire classic shows us what happens when a dopey teen squares off with a seductive yet sinister supernatural force; and it doesn’t skimp on the blood or the comedy in the process. Expanding Taika Waititi’s 2014 mockumentary into an extended universe of lunacy, following Long Island’s found family of fang bearers (and Harvey Guillén’s Guillermo) became one of those rare cases where the TV version outdid the source film it was based on. From its humble origins, straight through to What We Do in the Shadows’ perfect series finale, the series was a consistently funny delight. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Columbia Pictures) Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) Much as 2024’s Nosferatu strived to be a more modern adaptation of F.W. Murnau’s classic mockbuster, 1992’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula gave fans fresh blood when telling this time-worn classic. Gary Oldman plays the Francis Ford Coppola-directed spin on this character as both a tragic romantic and a vicious adversary. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: MGM Television) Dark Shadows (1991) Reinventing the classic ABC soap opera as a darker, moodier affair, the short-lived NBC revival of Dark Shadows tried to make a name for itself in 1991. As Ben Cross stepped into the iconic role of Barnabas Collins, it’s miles away from the 2012 Tim Burton adaptation, which turned the more gothically inclined story into a silly comedy. It probably didn't help that this dramatic reimagining was staked after a short first season. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Lions Gate Films) Shadow of the Vampire (2000) Decades before Willem Dafoe would play for the human team in Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, the Academy Award nominee actually dipped his fangs into the legendary off-brand remake of Dracula through Shadow of the Vampire. A dark comedy that shows us the “real story” behind F.W. Murnau (John Malkovich) and his horror milestone, the plot alleges that Dafoe’s Max Schreck was an actual vampire/movie-making diva. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Warner Bros.) Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997 - 2003) Joss Whedon’s horror/comedy cult classic found a second life as a seven-season TV series, with Sarah Michelle Gellar embodying a more grounded incarnation of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The tone wasn’t the only improvement, as some of the best Buffy episodes experimented with form, and gave us impressive guest stars like John Ritter and a pre-fame Pedro Pascal. It was also one of the most effective heartbreakers, thanks to some deaths and romances that didn’t always involve the undead. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Focus Features) Nosferatu (2024) Robert Eggers is a modern horror master that understands the classics. His 2024 adaptation of Nosferatu proved that fact yet again, thanks to a new spin on director F. W. Murneau’s bootleg classic. Despite Bill Skarsgard’s gross-out latex stories and Count Orlock looking quite imposing, his would-be romance with Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp) is as haunting as it is intriguing. (Image source: FX) The Strain (2014 - 2017) is a television series that blends elements of horror and drama, focusing on a viral outbreak that transforms humans into vampire-like creatures. The show, based on the novel trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, follows a team of CDC officials and other survivors as they battle to save humanity from this terrifying epidemic. Over its four-season run, the series explores themes of survival, power, and the nature of evil. Co-creators Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan created a horror literary hit with their trilogy of books telling the story of The Strain. So when it came time to adapt the series to TV, FX gave it a four-season epic that covered this apocalypse from its very beginning. Dishing out vampire lore, while giving us intriguing characters on both sides of the conflict, the tale even gave us one of Stephen King’s favorite TV monster hunters! View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Miramax) From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) is a cult classic film that blends elements of crime, horror, and dark comedy. Directed by Robert Rodriguez and written by Quentin Tarantino, the story follows two brothers on the run who seek refuge in a remote bar, only to discover that it is a haven for vampires. The film features a unique mix of action and supernatural elements, culminating in a thrilling and bloody showdown as the protagonists fight for survival against the undead. It sucks that the big twist of Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk Till Dawn kind of needs to be spoiled in instances like this. What begins as a crime thriller that sees the Gecko Brothers (George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino) kidnapping a family as cover for their escape to Mexico turns into something much more deadly. I’m not going to say it’s vampires, but if you know this list, or even know this movie, you know what’s up. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Netflix) Midnight Mass (2021) Creator Mike Flanagan delivered an opus of horror and humanity in the Netflix limited series Midnight Mass. “Transformation” is the one word this story could be boiled down to, as the mysterious Father Paul Hill (Hamish Linklater) arrives on Crockett Island just as some interesting occurrences start to take shape. You can expect to be frightened, but don’t be surprised if you end up crying here and there. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Canal+) Let the Right One In (2008) A methodically haunting film, Let The Right One In is a vampire movie on its surface. As bullied loner Oskar (Kåre Hedebrant) starts to strike up a friendship with Eli (Lina Leandersson), their deepening connection leads to an unintended web of death. But the more you look under the surface of author John Ajvide Lindqvist’s screenplay adapting his own book, the more you’ll see the subtle mix between the disturbing and the melancholic. (Image source: The WB) Angel (1999 - 2004) is a television series that follows the story of a vampire with a soul, Angel, who seeks redemption for his past sins by helping those in need in Los Angeles. It’s rare that a spinoff can pack as much of a punch as its predecessor, but Angel managed to do just that. The David Boreanaz-led offshoot from Buffy the Vampire Slayer was cut short at the end of Season 5, despite co-star James Marsters noting Angel’s huge audience spike. So if you’re ready for a noir-tinged L.A. adventure that ends rather abruptly, look no further. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Universal Pictures) Van Helsing (2004年) What do you do when you’ve landed two successful Mummy movies with Brendan Fraser? Well, if you’re director Stephen Sommers, you try your hand at the rest of the Universal Monsters universe in one fell swoop with a movie like Van Helsing. With Hugh Jackman playing a variant of the titular legendary vampire hunter, there are all sorts of creatures that he has to contend with; leading to an adventure that’s just as blood-pumping and hysterical as The Mummy. And yet, the religious overtones and painted blood both flowed as Dracula himself tried to start a reign of terror in Romania. A terrific video game adaptation, and a hell of a cartoon, the legacy continues in a follow-up series, Castlevania: Nocturne. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Universal Pictures) The Final Journey of the Demeter (2023) It took decades for The Last Voyage of the Demeter to finally become a reality. Focusing on the chapter of Bram Stoker’s Dracula in which the vampiric menace makes his crossing to England, this ensemble horror show is a beautiful slow burn. Audiences may not have dug this one upon initial release, but director André Øvredal’s richly drawn nightmare is ripe to be discovered by audiences in the mood for something underrated. (Image source: NBC) The Munsters (1964 - 1966) was a classic American television series that blended comedy and horror, showcasing the amusing misadventures of a lovable monster family living in a spooky mansion. Yes, The Munsters technically counts as a vampire show. With Lily (Yvonne DeCarlo) and Grandpa (Al Lewis) making up the fanged contingent of the family, their misadventures with the lovably dopey creature Herman (Fred Gwynne) made for a memorable TV sitcom. And to think, between the debuts of The Addams Family and Batman, network execs somehow thought there wasn’t room for this monstrous slice of life. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: New Line Cinema / Marvel) Blade II (2002) People might see the first two Blade movies as interchangeable on a list like this. They’d be wrong, because while Wesley Snipes’ origin story in the Marvel Comics universe is impressive, Blade II really makes him sing. Director Guillermo del Toro not only got to sort of test out his vampires for The Strain through the designs of the Reapers, he also gave us scenes between Snipes and Ron Perlman that only make the action even more...exciting. That might sound like the setup to a joke, but the BBC series Being Human did ask, and answer, that very question through five seasons. With the vampire part of the equation being filled by John Mitchell (Aidan Turner) and later Hal Yorke (Damien Molony), creator Toby Whitehouse’s show would eventually be remade in the US, with none of the casting switch-ups of its source material. As a bunch of amateur kidnappers wander into a job where they have to grab and babysit a 12-year-old girl (Alisha Weir), the tables soon turn as this older-than-she-looks menace hunts her would-be captors. (Image source: Funimation) Rosario + Vampire (2008) Vampires can be rather cute if you write them the right way. The two-season anime adaptation of the manga Rosario + Vampire is one such project, as it follows young man Tsukune Aono who accidentally finds himself going to a monsters-only boarding school. Luckily for him, vampire girl Moka Akashiya helps him survive, as she’s not only friendly, but she also has a crush on our hero. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Netflix) Vampires vs. The Bronx (2020) There are two huge reasons vampire fans should watch the ever-charming horror-comedy Vampires vs. The Bronx. The first one is obviously because of the fact that using gentrification as a metaphor for a vampiric conquest is pretty sharp. But another fantastic note to make is that this is a modern flick that establishes Blade as a sacred vampire text. So if you like Wesley Snipes’ Daywalker, this Netflix original is an easy option. (Image source: AMC) Anne Rice's "Interview With The Vampire" (2022 - Present) There is a lot of queer subtext that the movie adaptation of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire couldn’t fully dig into in the mid-’90s. So when AMC got its hands on the rights to reinterpret the entire book series, the new Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Lestat (Sam Reid) were able to really sink their teeth into everything fans already knew about these undead foils. The story follows a teenager named Charlie Brewster, who discovers that his new neighbor, Jerry Dandridge, is a vampire. As mysterious disappearances occur in their suburban neighborhood, Charlie teams up with a famous vampire hunter to confront the sinister creature and protect his loved ones. The film blends humor and horror, showcasing thrilling moments and a fresh take on the vampire genre. It’s always amazing when a remake can stand on its own two feet, honoring its source while also doing its own thing. 2011’s revamped version of Fright Night is a beautiful case in point, especially when focusing on the villainous vampire Jerry Dandridge. Played by Colin Farrell, Jerry’s romantic melancholy is replaced with dude bro sociopath energy aimed at Anton Yelchin's Charlie Brewster. Also, David Tennant’s Peter Vincent, heavily influenced by mid-aughts illusionist Criss Angel, is another deliciously R-rated note in this picture’s arsenal. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: The CW) The Vampire Diaries (2009 - 2017) is a supernatural drama series that captivated audiences with its intense storytelling and complex characters. If you mix in a little bit of Twilight with a touch of Supernatural and a heaping dose of Dracula, you’ve got the formula for The CW hit The Vampire Diaries. With two spin-offs and plenty of smoldering good looks from cast members like Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, this is a pure example of what the network was known for in its heyday. (Image source: Sony Pictures Releasing) Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation (2018) Kids need to be introduced to vampires at some point, and the Hotel Transylvania series is probably the best way to get youngsters acquainted with creatures of the night. But suppose you really want to go for the comedic gold. In that case, it's recommended you watch Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, as it pits lonely widower Drac (Adam Sandler) against his would-be hunter/potential love interest Ericka (Kathryn Hahn)...the great-granddaughter of the Van Helsing (Jim Gaffigan.) American Horror Story: Hotel (2015 - 2016) is a chilling installment of the acclaimed anthology series, delving into the dark and twisted events surrounding a mysterious hotel filled with supernatural occurrences and haunted pasts. The fifth season of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story mixed two things that people can’t get enough of: murder hotels, and the creatures that run them. Acting as a web of mayhem, intrigue, and bloodletting orchestrated by the alluring Countess (Lady Gaga), things get as twisted and steamy as you’d expect from FX’s long-running masterpiece of fright. (Image source: Odessa Filmworks, Inc.) Jesus Christ: Vampire Slayer Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter is a movie you should absolutely not take seriously. Unless you take your low-budget musical horror comedies gravely serious; in which case continue as planned. Director Lee Demarbre and writer Ian Driscoll leave it all on the field in a picture that’s so absurd, that no synopsis would do it justice. You’ll just have to trust your heart, and The Lord, and this one. NOS4A2 (2019 - 2020) 是一部基于乔·希尔同名小说改编的恐怖剧集,讲述了一个关于超自然力量和追逐的故事。 Author Joe Hill’s NOS4A2 is a twisted gem that father Stephen King is probably very proud of. Sharing similar sensibilities to his master of horror dad, vampire Charlie Manx (Zachary Quinto) hunts young children to stay immortal, and uses a sickly sweet Christmas village to do just that. Of course, with a seemingly psychic woman on his trail (Ashleigh Cummings), the playing field is a bit more evened out in this two-season scrap. (Image source: New World Pictures) Vamp (1986) is a horror-comedy film that follows a group of college students who venture into a nightclub in search of entertainment, only to discover that it's a den for vampires. The film combines elements of humor and horror, featuring a mix of quirky characters and supernatural thrills. If you’re heading out for a little bit of nightlife, you should always keep in mind where you’re headed. The young men at the heart of 1986’s Vamp didn’t get that warning, which is what leads them to the nightclub that introduces them to the enigmatic Katrina (Grace Jones). A night of fatal misadventure follows, as this After Hours style horror-comedy doesn’t let our protagonists off easy.

Lars Niki/Getty Images for New York Women in Film & Television Despite her 2023 diagnosis of frontotemporal demensia and aphasia, former TV talk show host Wendy Williams is now disputing claims of her ailing health and says she is being abused by her guardianship. “I am not cognitively impaired,” Williams said while calling into iHeartRadio’s The Breakfast Club Thursday, adding that she wants to be released from the New York City care facility where she’s been living. “I feel like I’m in a prison.” (Go here to listen to the broadcast.) The television star elaborated on the facility's strict security measures, revealing that her family is unable to reach her, and expressing that she feels as though she is being kept “captive.” “For the past three years, I’ve celebrated my birthday alone,” she revealed. “This is a form of emotional abuse.” Williams’ niece, Alex Finnie, who also participated in the program, supported Williams’ statements, describing the facility as “a high-end prison.” Williams previously spoke out on her dementia and aphasia diagnoses, thanking fans for “the love and kind words” in a statement to People magazine. “Your response has been overwhelming. The messages shared with me have touched me, reminding me of the power of unity and the need for compassion.” She added: “I continue to need personal space and peace to thrive. Please just know that your positivity and encouragement are deeply appreciated.” Shortly after the diagnosis was announced, Lifetime premiered Where is Wendy Williams?, a four-part documentary produced by Williams herself. The program offers “a raw, honest and unfiltered reality of Wendy’s life after she was placed under financial guardianship, shedding light on the vulnerabilities that has turned Wendy into the Hot Topic herself,” per the official synopsis. “Suffering mental and physical issues, Wendy’s delicate state of mind, erratic behavior and declining health were all captured by the cameras.” Williams’ guardian Sabrina Morrissey sought legal action against Lifetime ahead of the premiere, asking that the documentary not be aired. After appearing in court, however, Lifetime was able to air the documentary as planned. Williams’ health struggles first came to light in 2017, when a fainting spell in the middle of a live broadcast caused many to begin questioning her health. She went public with a Graves’ disease diagnosis in 2018, one year before announcing that she was also living in a sober house. She hosted her final episode of the now-defunct Wendy Williams Show in 2021, and financial troubles soon followed.

Stephen King Proposes Cancellation of the 2025 Oscars Due to Los Angeles Wildfires, Yet Advocates for a More Viable Solution

2025-08-14 15:34:55

Stephen King has announced that he will not be participating in the voting for the Oscars in 2025. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: De Laurentiis Entertainment Group) Hollywood has spent the last week figuring out how to properly operate amid the on-going devastation of the fires in Los Angeles, and one consequence of the horrific natural disaster has been delays in award season: in light of the tragedy, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has both extended the voting period for the Oscars and pushed the scheduled date for nomination announcements (originally January 17, it has now been moved to January 23). These calls were made out of respect for those in the film industry who have suffered tremendous losses in the last few days – but Stephen King has publicly wondered if enough deference is being shown and has suggested that the entire show this year should be cancelled. But is that the right call? That is one of the three main headlines I have lined up in this week’s edition of The King Beat. In addition to King’s thoughts about 9th Academy Awards, the author has also offered an update about his work on the untitled The Talisman 3 and the release of director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man in theaters has me thinking that an underrated book should be taken into consideration for a new adaptation. There’s a lot to discuss, so let’s dig in! View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Warner Bros.) Stephen King Announces He Will Not Cast His Vote for the Oscars This Year, Advocating Instead for the Event to Focus on Charitable Causes Is Los Angeles in a state right now to celebrate all of the fabled glamor of Hollywood? This has been a hotly debated topic on social media in the last few days, and Stephen King has thrown his two cents into the public discussion in support of the negative. As the struggle to contain the horrific fires in southern California continues, the author said via Bluesky this week that he plans to abstain from voting for this year’s Oscars and expressed his thoughts about the event continuing as scheduled. He wrote, Normally, Stephen King is very much an engaged Academy voter. In 2021, he memorably lamented the challenge of the nomination process while movie theaters around the world remained closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and he publicly expressed outrage last year when Greta Gerwig failed to get a Best Director nomination for Barbie. In 2025, however, he doesn’t feel that it’s appropriate for the film industry to throw a massive party while so many people in the industry’s main town are struggling so badly. This viewpoint is certainly understandable and has merit, yet it remains open to debate. While it’s undeniable that hosting a lavish celebration in a city recently affected by hardship may seem inappropriate, it’s important to consider the positive outcomes that could arise from such an event. The Oscars generate numerous job opportunities, benefiting many individuals who are facing economic difficulties. Additionally, the ceremony has the potential to highlight the city’s resilience and can be a platform for promoting charitable initiatives and sharing vital information on how to assist those in need. For what it’s worth, a Bluesky user responded to Stephen King’s post suggesting that the 97th Academy Awards be used as a Farm Aid-style show to raise awareness and gather donations, and the author responded by quote posting with the caption, “Dig it, yeah.” Although nominations have been temporarily delayed, the Oscars are still set to broadcast as initially intended on March 2, with Conan O’Brien confirmed to host the event. (Image source: Viking) Stephen King Shares Exciting News About His Work on The Talisman 3 It has now been almost a quarter-of-a-century since Stephen King’s Constant Readers got to go on an adventure with protagonist Jack Sawyer, but if we’re lucky, that drought will be coming to an end in the coming years. In the summer of 2023, King teased that he was contemplating a sequel to his novels The Talisman and Black House (both books co-written by Peter Straub), and after a long wait, it seems the story is coming together. The author has avoided making any firm commitments about actually finishing and publishing the material, but it can be said for certain that ideas are being put down on paper, and we got our latest update about the potential tome this week. Specifically, Stephen King took to his personal Threads account in the last couple of days to share that work on the book is on-going. While not exactly spilling his guts about how the writing process is going, he posted, That’s obviously not much… but it wasn’t all that the author had to say about the developing novel. Keeping fans in the know about what’s going on, he not only reiterated that the story is inspired by an idea Peter Straub shared with him before he passed away in 2022, but that like The Talisman and Black House, the novel will feature a co-author credit: For those who may not be familiar, this highlights Stephen King's unique approach to writing. Unlike many authors who meticulously plan their narratives before beginning, King opts for a different strategy. He typically starts with characters and foundational concepts, allowing the story to unfold organically. This method has undoubtedly contributed to his remarkable success over the years, proving effective for him. However, it does come with the risk that some projects might get stalled and struggle to progress, which is reflected in the cautiousness of his remarks. Assuming the work actually gets done, it could potentially be five or 10 years before Constant Readers get the chance to read The Talisman 3, and that’s a tough test of patience – but the silver lining is that we won’t have to wait nearly that long for the author’s latest work. Instead, we’re now just a few month away from that wonderful opportunity, as Never Flinch – the latest book about oddball detective Holly Gibney – is scheduled to arrive in stores everywhere on May 27. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Paramount Pictures) This weekend marks the release of a new reboot of The Wolf Man, but when can we expect a fresh take on the classic werewolf story? Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man is arriving in theaters this coming weekend, and if I’m being honest, I’m not a big fan of the film. As I noted in my two-star CinemaBlend review, there are cool things that the new horror movie does well, particularly in the effects department, and it has some novel ideas in approaching a classic monster story, but it also feels scattershot in its construction and manipulates mythos to the point where it ceases to properly qualify as part of the long canon of werewolf cinema. I walked away from it with feelings of disappointment – but I now find myself wanting more than ever to see Hollywood tackle a new adaptation of Stephen King’s Cycle Of The Werewolf into either a new feature or possibly as a limited series. For those of you unfamiliar with the title, Cycle Of The Werewolf was first published in 1983 – and it wasn’t actually meant to be a book. As initially conceived, the story was supposed to be included in an illustrated calendar created in collaboration with artist Bernie Wrightson, but King’s imagination overflowed and the original assignment of a dozen 500-word vignettes became a novella. Taking some liberties with how the phases of the moon work, each chapter highlights monthly events in the small town of Tarker’s Mill, Maine, which is set upon by a deadly lycanthrope who can ultimately only be stopped by paraplegic 10-year-old hero Marty Coslaw. The author himself adapted the story as a screenplay in 1985, changing the title to Silver Bullet, and while it’s a serviceable film, it’s also material hungry for a remake. As I noted in my Adapting Stephen King column about the project, behind-the-scenes debates between director Daniel Attias and producer Dino De Laurentiis about the tone of the movie left it ultimately feeling a bit schizophrenic – stuck between being a kid-friendly monster flick and a gruesome horror show full of bloody violence – but the story is terrific, and in the hands of the right director, a new adaptation could be terrific. For what it’s worth, interest in developing this remake does exist. When I spoke with Firestarter remake director Keith Thomas a few years ago, he cited Cycle Of The Werewolf as an ideal follow-up King project he would love to make, and filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier outed himself as a fan of the specific book last fall when King shared his appreciation for Saulnier’s Netflix original Rebel Ridge. Nothing is in active development as far as I know, but it would be wonderful to see what could be made with the material. The book is short enough that a new film version would make plenty of sense, but if a streamer or TV network wanted to be really bold, it would be amazing to see a 12-episode miniseries with each chapter featuring events that transpire in a single calendar month. I’m keeping fingers crossed. That wraps up this edition of The King Beat, but there isn’t a week that goes by without some kind of cool development from the world of Stephen King, and I’ll be back here on CinemaBlend next Thursday with a new roundup of all the biggest stories. While you wait for my next column, you can discover all of the super exciting projects based on the author’s books/stories that are on the way with our Upcoming Stephen King Movies and TV guide.

We realized that all of the trays, they were all Hoda’s stuff and it was, like, one contact and expired bean dip and belly button lint and all this stuff.” Choosing to declutter the Today set, Guthrie sent Kotb, 60, a hilarious video of herself throwing out Kotb’s collection of belongings. “Oh, hey girl. Guess you didn’t want any of this s—,” Guthrie quipped in the clip, which host Jimmy Fallon showed on-air. “Don’t mind me,” Guthrie added before dumping Kotb’s tray items into the garbage. “Love you.” Following the clip, Guthrie remarked on the appearance of the tray, noting that it seemed unclean. "It had, like, rusty barnacles growing on it," she quipped. "Honestly, it was revolting." Fallon, 50, reminisced about a time when she was taken aback by the condition of Kotb’s handbag, commenting, “It resembles a binder filled with documents. While the Western neo-drama series is highly celebrated for its top-notch storyline and action-packed performances, it has also sparked its fair share of controversy. One notable moment came when a fan-favorite character’s political views became a hot-button issue for many fans. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Forrie J Smith captured in a scene from 'Yellowstone' (Image Credit: Paramount Network) The actor in question is Forrie J Smith, who played the role of the oldest rancher, Lloyd Pierce, in 'Yellowstone'. While his character was beloved by fans, Smith’s real-life reputation hasn’t been as well received. In recent years, he’s faced his share of controversies, making him one of the most talked-about actors from the show. In March 2024, Smith took to Instagram to vent his frustration after being removed from a flight in Houston. According to Click2Houston, the incident occurred when he refused to sit next to a passenger wearing a mask. In a video posted soon after, the 65-year-old actor expressed his disbelief and irritation, saying, "I just got kicked off a plane, and, uh, where the hell am I at?" Smith elaborated that the flight crew claimed he was intoxicated, a charge he strongly refuted. "I'm not drunk, yet they remove me from the plane under the assumption that I am, all because no one has the guts to speak up about this nonsense," he stated. In the same video, Smith conceded that he had consumed alcohol but explained that it was a result of the lengthy wait he experienced at the airport. "I've been stuck in an airport for three hours. Of course, I'm drinking," he confessed. Nevertheless, he insisted that his actions were not improper and attributed the situation to the airline’s policies and choices. This isn’t the first time Smith’s controversial stance has made headlines. He also chose not to attend the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, citing his refusal to follow Covid-related rules. Smith explained his decision in a video posted on Instagram, as reported by Variety. The real-life rodeo explained that his refusal to get vaccinated is the primary factor behind his absence and said, "I want to apologize to y’all for not being at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. I mean no offence to anyone. I'm not vaccinated, and it's a requirement to be vaccinated." Smith solidified his viewpoint by stating, "I’m not vaccinated, and I refuse to get vaccinated," highlighting his consistent beliefs on the matter. He elaborated on his anti-vaccination stance, mentioning, "I haven’t received any vaccinations since childhood. I don’t vaccinate my dogs or my horses. I’ve never taken a flu shot, and I never intend to." He clarified his perspective, saying, "I think they weaken your immune system. These are just my beliefs. I simply don’t subscribe to that idea. Whatever." While he maintained that he meant no disrespect to anyone, his remarks continue to generate debate among the public.

Netflix流媒体平台 cull continues, though rather than unceremonious cancellation, the streamer will instead be removing several of its own “original” television shows. The dream of streaming first began with the idea that there would be no ads, and that these new studios could create and license their own projects free of the Hollywood system. Sadly, the dream seems to be slowly dying, with the addition of platforms removing their own TV shows being just the next step in the inevitable demise (or, at least, dilution) of streaming. The first Netflix流媒体平台 original on the chopping block is the Hungarian romantic drama Regarding the essence of the body and spirit. , which boasts a hugely impressive 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. The series will be leaving Netflix流媒体平台 on February 2, 2025, (via What's on Netflix流媒体平台) meaning you don’t have long to catch up on this tale of a man and a woman who meet at work and slowly begin to realize that they have the same dreams at night. Next up is the Bill Pullman led spy thriller The Coldest Game . Directed by Łukasz Kośmicki, The Coldest Game follows Pullman as Joshua Mansky, an alcoholic, chess champion, and math genius who finds himself playing an integral part in the unfolding Cuban missile crisis, which threatens world peace in 1962. The Coldest Game will leave Netflix流媒体平台 on February 8, 2025, and while it was not well-received by critics (in fact, it holds a rare rating of 0% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 5 reviews), anything starring the captivating Bill Pullman is always worth a watch. Before it’s too late! Netflix流媒体平台 Has Become Merciless in Its Approach The Netflix流媒体平台 anime series Cyborg 009: Call of Justice will also depart from the streamer on February 10, 2025. Released back in 2017, the limited series finds the titular band of cyborgs attempting to live normal lives. But, soon, they are forced to fight once again for the sake of humanity. Also leaving Netflix流媒体平台 on February 10 is the well-received Until Life Do Us Part (Até Que a Vida Nos Separe). The romantic drama hails from Portugal and centers on the Paixao family as they try to withstand the various trials and tribulations of life. And the bad news keeps coming, as all 44-episodes of the martial arts action-adventure series Handsome Siblings will part ways with Netflix流媒体平台 on February 14, 2025. Meaning audiences don’t have long to catch up on this tale of twin martial artists. The following week, the streamer will bid farewell to the stand-up comedy special Sommore: Queen Chandelier, which features “Queen of Comedy” Sommore as she takes the stage at the Wick Theater. Saturday Night Live is marking its 50th anniversary with a special episode airing in February, along with a documentary set to premiere on Peacock. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Over the years, Saturday Night Live has encountered a number of controversies. A show couldn't be on air for 50 years and not have a few scandals. Saturday Night Live is celebrating its 50th year on the air this year. The beloved late night show always has a host and musical guest every episode, sometimes one person doing both. But while shows sometimes go smoothly, every once in a while, a weekly guest doesn't stick to the script. The show is always shot live, which can sometimes work against the cast and crew. Here's a few of the guests over the years that caused a few eyebrows to raise. Ashlee Simpson's lip-syncing incident View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Ashlee Simpson expressed her desire to avoid performing with pre-recorded vocals. During the peak of her fame, Ashlee Simpson appeared as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live in 2004. She performed her popular track, Pieces of Me, earlier in the evening without any issues. However, when she stepped onto the stage for her second performance of "Autobiography," it became apparent that she was lip-syncing, as the track from her earlier song began to play. Caught off guard, Ashlee momentarily panicked, danced a bit, and then quickly exited the stage. The incident has gained widespread attention, as Ashlee revealed last year that she relied on pre-recorded vocals due to illness. Despite her objections, her record label urged her to go through with the performance. Ashlee remembered feeling anxious, saying, "My band hasn’t rehearsed this, this isn’t going to turn out well, I can’t handle this." Martin Lawrence 'prohibited' View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Locating the complete monologue can be quite challenging. In 1994, comedian Martin Lawrence made a memorable appearance on Saturday Night Live as the host, delivering a monologue that veered completely off script during the live broadcast. The complete monologue was removed from online platforms, leaving only a handful of clips accessible. In the contentious segment, Martin made inappropriate remarks regarding the scent of women's private areas, resulting in more than 200 complaints. This uproar prompted sponsors of the show to voice their objections, ultimately resulting in Martin's ban from the program. Adrian Brody's poor imitation View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Adrian mentioned that he was never asked to return to SNL. In 2003, Adrian Brody deviated from the script by performing a Jamaican impression just before he introduced the Jamaican artist Sean Paul. The star of The Pianist surprised both the audience at home and the cast behind the scenes by wearing a dreadlock wig and adopting an unusual accent. There were whispers that this incident led to Adrian being banned from the late-night show; however, the actor recently clarified that he was never informed of any ban, although he has not received an invitation to return since then. Sinead O'Connor speaks out against the Pope. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Sinead O'Connor voiced her dissent against the Catholic Church. One of the most notorious incidents in Saturday Night Live history occurred when Sinead O'Connor staged a protest against the Catholic Church regarding its handling of child sexual abuse, an issue that Pope John Paul II had not addressed at that point. Following her a cappella rendition of Bob Marley's song "War," the late artist displayed a picture of the pope and tore it apart, stating directly to the camera: "Fight the real enemy." The audience expressed their strong disapproval, even booing Sinead during a tribute concert for Bob Dylan just two weeks later. In her 2021 memoir, Rememberings, she revealed that she had no regrets regarding her protest. "People crave a pop star, don't they?" she penned. "But I'm a protest singer. I had things weighing on my mind that needed to be expressed. Fame was never my goal." Kanye West's stance on political issues View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Kanye expressed his backing for Donald Trump. This controversial incident never aired. In 2018, during Donald Trump's initial term as president, Kanye West appeared as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Following his performance of the song Ghost Town, the rapper put on a red Make America Great Again hat and delivered a speech in support of Trump, which was met with boos from the audience. Chris Redd, who was an SNL cast member at the time, later shared with the Daily Beast that he had anticipated the moment, noting that Kanye had pulled a similar move during the dress rehearsal. “Even with the music still going, folks were just chilling and enjoying the moment,” Chris recalled. “But I was focused on what he was saying, thinking to myself, ‘Man, he’s about to drop some nonsense.’ I wasn’t about to get caught up in that on stage. I refuse to support it. I’ve admired Kanye for as long as I can remember, and I really miss the old Kanye.” Subscribe to our FREE newsletter and receive the latest headlines directly in your inbox! Wendy Williams Shares Bold Prediction About Diddy’s Future: ‘I Have Insights You Can’t Imagine’

View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Wendy Williams believes that Sean 'Diddy' Combs may face a lifetime behind bars. This is what she expressed during a radio broadcast in January 2025. Wendy Williams recently spoke out about Sean “Diddy” Combs while on the air. The talk show host had a longstanding feud with Combs for years before they squashed their beef. In January 2025, Williams discussed the horrors of her conservatorship — and she threw in a prediction regarding Combs’ legal troubles. Here’s what she said about his potential prison sentence and what she allegedly “knows.” Wendy Williams shared her thoughts on what Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs' prison sentence might entail. Wendy Williams and Sean “Diddy” Combs’ feud spans back to the ’90s. In 2005, Williams claimed on her radio show, The Wendy Williams Experience, that the girl group, Total, signed to Combs’ record label Bad Boy Records, nearly jumped her. In 2019, she revived the conversation and hinted that Combs was involved. Williams discussed her firing from Hot 97 in 2013 and hinted that Combs had to do with that as well. Additionally, Williams wrote in her book, The Wendy Williams Experience, that she has “contempt” for Combs. “I will never forget,” she wrote. “But I don’t hate him.” Williams and Combs buried the hatchet later. In 2024, Combs was arrested and charged with racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Williams has spoken out about the arrest. She gave more insight into the situation while speaking on Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM in January 2025. “She concluded the call with a definitive statement: ‘Diddy is facing a life sentence, everyone. You have no idea about the secrets I hold regarding Diddy from the past. … Honestly, it’s about time this happens. Diddy is finished.’” Wendy Williams once claimed that she had predicted the mogul's legal issues. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Wendy Williams was present at the premiere of Apple TV+’s ‘The Morning Show’ held at David Geffen Hall on October 28, 2019, as captured by Theo Wargo/Getty Images. Throughout her career, Wendy Williams reconciled with Sean “Diddy” Combs, yet she often harbored doubts about his actions. “What is really weird is that I have been told by so many people, ‘Wendy, you called it,’” she told DailyMail.com in October 2024, “including some people from my family who have said the same.” Williams mentioned the video showing Combs assaulting his then-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, in a hotel setting. “You know how I feel about that? It is about time,” Williams noted. “To see this video on TV of [Cassie] getting pummeled … it was just horrific. But now you have to think; how many more times? How many people? How many more women? It’s just so horrible.” In The Wendy Williams Experience, Williams elaborated on how Combs “hides” how dangerous he is. “In my opinion, Puffy is a very dangerous man,” she wrote. “ … Puffy hides behind his shiny suits, which makes him more dangerous because you don’t necessarily see him coming.” Sean 'Diddy' Combs' court proceedings may be delayed past May 2025. Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to head to trial in May 2025. However, prosecutors predict that the trial could get pushed if a “superseding indictment” involving minors is filed. “Minors present a completely different set of circumstances,” Neama Rahmani, a former federal prosecutor, told Law&Crime Network, according to DailyMail.com. “We know through his lawyers, Combs is arguing that the sexual activity happened, but it was consensual. Of course, for sex trafficking, you need one of those elements: force, thought, or coercion. Obviously, minors cannot consent to any sexual activity, so that would be a very different defense entirely.” Combs is presently located at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Although he had aspirations of securing bail earlier in the proceedings, that outcome did not materialize. Alleged victims are still stepping forward with their claims.

The co-star that Burt Reynolds disliked working with the most revealed, “She had this issue with me.”

2025-08-23 07:07:41

View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Credits: Far Out / YouTube Image Still) Burt Reynolds might never have achieved the dramatic prowess of Marlon Brando or the industry influence of Clint Eastwood, but he was an undisputed star in his heyday, balancing rugged masculinity with self-aware humour. Movies like Smokey and the Bandit made him an icon of the 1970s, while his breakout role in John Boorman’s Deliverance proved that he could do more than project charisma.  Reynolds secured his start as an actor after an injury forced him to stop playing college football. He knocked around on television for a while, playing cops and hunky blacksmiths before he bridged the gap to movies. He hit the peak of his career in the late 1970s and early ‘80s, playing hyper-masculine characters in movies like Semi-Tough and Cannonball Run. He rarely appeared in critically acclaimed movies, but it didn’t matter; he was one of the most popular stars in America.  By the late 1980s, Reynolds' career was on the decline. His portrayals began to feel increasingly redundant, putting him at risk of turning into a caricature of his former self. Throughout this time, he faced a series of commercial failures, one of which led to his most challenging encounter with a female co-star. The film was 1988’s Switching Channels, a remake of the 1928 play (and 1931 film) The Front Page, which was also adapted into the classic 1940 romantic comedy His Girl Friday. Reynolds stars as the director of a cable network whose ex-wife, played by Kathleen Turner, is his star news anchor. They spar constantly, but ultimately, of course, fall madly back in love. Unfortunately, things were not so romantic off-screen. In a 2018 interview with The Palm Springs Desert Sun, Reynolds identified the film as one of his biggest professional mistakes, pointing directly to Turner as the cause. “That was the only leading lady I couldn’t get along with at all,” he confessed. “She had this thing about me and she was probably right. I didn’t know what the hell I was doing. But, at least I was trying to be nice to everybody.” When the interviewer inquired if he was referring to Turner, Reynolds casually responded, “Yep.” It was almost as if he was signaling, “Let’s move on to the next topic.” This is a fairly diplomatic description of an unpleasant on-set experience, especially considering that Reynolds was not the only one who found Turner to be a challenging co-star. Although she was one of the most prominent actors in the ‘80s with movies like Romancing the Stone, Body Heat, and Peggy Sue Got Married, she frequently clashed with other actors and suffered a sharp career decline. For her part, Turner was equally unimpressed with Reynolds and once said that he was responsible for the worst on-screen kiss of her career. In a 2018 interview with Vanity Fair, she gave her side of the feud.   “Working with Burt Reynolds was terrible,” she said, revealing that he made her cry on the very first day of shooting. “He said something about not taking second place to a woman,” she continued. “His behaviour was shocking. It never occurred to me that I wasn’t someone’s equal.” It goes without saying that they never collaborated again. Associated Subjects

Wendy Williams Foresees That Diddy Will End Up Spending His Life Behind Bars

2025-08-31 21:16:07

"And you know what? It's high time. Diddy's finished." View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images for Vulture Festival Wendy Williams is convinced that Sean “Diddy” Combs will never see freedom again. During a recent call-in with The Breakfast Club on Thursday (Jan. 16), the legendary talk show host didn’t hold back when asked about the disgraced Bad Boy CEO. "Williams forecasted, 'Diddy is facing a lifetime behind bars, folks. You have no idea of the secrets I’ve known about him from years ago. Honestly, it’s about time this happened. Diddy’s time is up.'" Her long-standing grudge against Combs dates back to 1998 when she alleged he “single-handedly” got her fired from Hot 97. In her 2004 book, The Wendy Williams Experience, she wrote about her “contempt” for Diddy and the struggles she endured because of him. “The hell he put me through—I will never forget. But I don’t hate him,” she said. In 2019, she alleged that a certain influential "music mogul" dispatched a group of women to confront her outside a radio station, with many suggesting that Diddy was behind the scheme. "There was a time when a music mogul sent his female entourage to assault me right in front of the radio station. It's true!" she recounted back then. "After I completed my shift, I took off my headphones, slung my bag over my shoulder, and noticed a crowd gathering at the window, all staring down at the sidewalk." The media maven’s disdain for the 55-year-old isn’t a new feeling as she accused the Hip-Hop mogul of derailing her career in 1998. After a few other syndicated radio shows, Williams went on to have her own daytime talk show from 2008 to 2022, when production stopped due to her health. A year later the National Radio Hall of Famer was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and progressive aphasia—although she’s asserted that she’s “not cognitively impaired.” During the TBC interview, Williams emotionally opened up about her conservatorship, which she compared to a “luxury prison.” She said, “My life is a mess. It feels like I’m trapped in a cage. I’m really alone. I keep my door shut, spend my time watching TV, listening to the radio, and staring out the window. I just sit here as time passes me by. I’m surrounded by people in their 90s, 80s, and 70s. There’s something off about the folks on this floor.” Through her tears, she pleaded, “They won’t let you go or have anyone come to see you. You can’t even step outside for a walk, go on a trip, or see your family. I’m terrified I won’t get to celebrate my dad’s 94th birthday with him. The day after that isn’t guaranteed.” View pictures in App save up to 80% data. On July 23, 2019, Wendy Williams participated in a SiriusXM Town Hall event, which was hosted by SiriusXM's Karen Hunter at the SiriusXM Studios in New York City. This event was captured by Astrid Stawiarz/Getty Images for SiriusXM. As for Diddy, he’s currently being held in an actual jail as he awaits trial, which is scheduled to begin on May 5. He is held on the federal charges of racketeering and sex trafficking—which he has denied any wrongdoing. The father of seven has faced bail denial on three separate occasions, with prosecutors asserting that his purported participation in "freak-off" sex parties involved pressuring both women and men into engaging in extreme activities, some of which are reportedly recorded on video. If found guilty, Diddy could potentially receive a life sentence in prison.

Did Brad Pitt's relationship with Ines De Ramon play a role in the finalization of his lengthy divorce from Angelina Jolie, which had been likened to a prolonged 'War of the Roses'?

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finally concluded their lengthy divorce proceedings that lasted eight years, likely influenced by Pitt's recent romantic involvement. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. (Image source: Allstar/20th Century Fox) 2025 is a new year in so many ways, but it is the first year since 2016 that the divorce of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt is not an ongoing concern, and that should count for something. After eight years Jolie and Pitt finally signed their divorce papers just before New Year’s and it’s being suggested that the credit should go to Brad Pitt’s girlfriend. While Pitt and Jolie had not been officially divorced, they have been legally separated since 2019, allowing them to potentially remarry. Rumors have indicated that Pitt may be headed down that road with current flame Innes de Ramon. Page Six quotes an unnamed “insider” that it was de Ramon who had been urging her beau to just put the whole issue behind them, saying… While we have to take an unnamed source with a grain of salt, it’s certainly possible that de Ramon was a significant influence on this decision. While the couple has been together since 2022, and it took this long for a settlement to happen, all rumors have indicated things are only getting more serious between them. It could be that both de Ramon and Pitt wanted to make a clean break from the former relationship before taking the new one to new places. The divorce settlement remains confidential, leaving us in the dark about the specific terms or any alterations from the previous positions both parties had been advocating for. Should the assertion that Pitt initiated the decision to conclude the dispute be accurate, it could indicate that he relinquished certain demands he had previously been pursuing. However, the full details of the situation may forever remain a mystery. We know that child custody was a major sticking point, with Jolie fighting to limit Pitt’s visitation. At this point, that may have simply not been a significant issue. Of Pitt and Joie’s six children, only the youngest, 16-year-old twins, are still minors. The rest are adults who are free to see their parents as they choose. While the divorce proceedings are behind Pitt and Joie, their time in court on opposite sides is not. Brad Pitt is still suing his ex-wife over the sale of her share of the Château Miraval the pair owned. Pitt claims the two had an agreement that one would not sell without the permission of the other. Jolie recently dropped her countersuit, meaning this single lawsuit is now the lone remaining issue between them. Jolie's motion to dismiss the suit recently failed, meaning the case is a little closer to trial now.

WICHITA, Kansas (KAKE) — Spencer, the man behind SB Mowing, has become a viral sensation after helping a Wichita woman avoid city fines by cleaning up her overgrown yard. His generosity didn’t stop there. After months of struggling to find assistance, Beth found herself facing a $240 fine from the city. Fortunately, Spencer stepped in, offering to tidy up her yard at no cost after being informed by a city worker who wanted to help prevent a citation from being issued. His video resonated deeply on TikTok, racking up more than 100 million views across various platforms. Viewers flooded the comments section, expressing their desire to help Beth, which inspired Spencer to launch a GoFundMe campaign. Within just one day, over 21,000 generous individuals contributed, raising upwards of $550,000 to construct an accessibility ramp, create a new driveway, and address additional necessities. “I mentioned to her that I had a bit more information to share,” Spencer recounted. “I asked her to hold my hand and breathe deeply, as I was worried she might faint when I revealed the total amount we had raised.” When he finally disclosed the figure, Spencer noted that she was so taken aback that she couldn't even shed a tear. Spencer characterized Beth as “incredibly humble,” and she found herself deeply moved by the generosity of those around her. “She repeatedly asked me, ‘Why me? Why would anyone go out of their way for me?’” Spencer remembered. According to Spencer, the funds will be utilized judiciously, and he intends to keep the GoFundMe campaign active for the remainder of the week.

View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Pete Davidson revealed that he considered leaving Saturday Night Live after completing his inaugural season. Longtime star Pete Davidson admitted that he begged creator Lorne Michaels to fire him after a rough first season of Saturday Night Live. In Peacock's new docuseries, SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night, the 31-year-old revealed that he was ready to throw in the towel after just one season on the late night show. The comedian confessed that he was ready to leave after struggling to make friends on set as he grappled with imposter syndrome. Pete made his debut on Saturday Night Live on September 27, 2014, when he was just 20 years old, earning him the title of the youngest cast member in the show's history. In a recent docuseries, the Bodies Bodies Bodies star revealed that he doubted his chances of success following his audition, which he felt was a challenging stand-up performance. Even after receiving the offer to join SNL, Pete admitted he struggled with feelings of inadequacy compared to his highly skilled fellow cast members. Pete reminisced, "After my first year, I actually requested a meeting with Lorne and said, ‘Please fire me.’ He asked, ‘Why?’ and I replied, ‘I don’t fit in here. Everyone is so talented, and they don’t seem interested in being my friend.’" Chuckling, he continued, "Because I was just a kid. I thought, 'No one wants to be my friend.' He told me, ‘You won’t understand until your third or fourth year... It’s going to be tough for three or four years.’ And he was spot on.” View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Pete Davidson revealed that he attempted to leave SNL. Following Lorne's motivation for Pete to persevere with his aspirations and remain on the show, the comedian continued as a host on SNL for an impressive eight years, earning $3,000 for each episode. After nearly ten years filled with side-splitting sketches and clever performances alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood, Pete bid farewell to the show on May 21, 2022. Following Pete's exit from Saturday Night Live, he has taken on several new ventures. In 2023, he co-created and starred in the Peacock drama series Bupkis, which draws inspiration from his life experiences in Staten Island, New York. Once he completed the series, Pete transitioned into a role as the creative director for the sock brand Doublesoul. He shared that his choice to step back from acting was influenced in part by the negative attention and criticism he faced due to his high-profile relationships, notably with Ariana Grande and Kim Kardashian. Photo by Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images While Savannah Guthrie was sad to say goodbye to Hoda Kotb on Today, she was happy to throw away some of the items her former coanchor left behind. “It’s a new era, it’s the Craig [Melvin] era, and we go and we sit on the set and there are these trays,” Guthrie, 53, explained in a joint interview with Melvin, 45, on the Wednesday, January 15, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “It might have a mint or whatever it is. It reminded me of my father's old wallet.” Guthrie couldn't resist teasing Kotb about her quirky choice of accessories, mentioning how she occasionally prefers a plastic bag instead of a traditional purse at red carpet events. "You know, the clear Ziploc bag often has a banana and a tampon inside," she revealed with a laugh. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Southern Charm's Molly Claims 'ANTM' Was 'Psychological Torture,' Much 'Tougher' Than the Bravo Series

View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Molly O'Connell. Molly O’Connell is new to Southern Charm for season 10 but she’s no stranger to reality TV after competing on America’s Next Top Model. “Top Model was harder, definitely,” Molly, 37, revealed on the Thursday, January 16, episode of “The Viall Files” podcast. “It was 24/7 filming. They had motion sensor cameras in the corner of our bedrooms.” The model, who came in second during season 16 of ANTM in 2011, recalled the showers being “see-through except for one little frosted part” and the bathrooms only having a curtain instead of a door. “You couldn’t really get away from anyone. They could easily walk in,” Molly clarified, pointing out that the cameras wouldn’t invade the bathrooms while you were using them. However, she insisted, “If you tried to avoid the cameras, they’d track you down.” Molly claimed that the production crew would intentionally create chaos and amplify everyone's feelings by scheduling interviews at “really late” hours. “I would get low blood sugar attacks and need food and they would dangle a sandwich in front of me. ‘Just a few more questions Molly and then we’ll feed you,’” she told host Nick Viall of her time filming back in 2010. “It was so toxic.” While Molly called ANTM “a bit of psychological torture,” she said, “I would still do it again. It wasn’t so horrible that I wouldn’t do that experience all over again.” During her first season of Southern Charm — her debut episode premiered in December 2024 — Molly has been open about her challenges as a model. When asked if Whitney or Tyra Banks was “more rude about food,” Molly said it wasn’t even close. “Honestly, I’d say Tyra,” she responded. “Whitney only mentioned that one thing. He doesn’t usually talk to me that way. It was more like, ‘Seriously, can’t you pick up on the vibe?’” Molly noted that Banks, 51 — who created the model competition in 2003 — was “so toxic” but claimed, “She didn’t say stuff about us eating.” “She wasn’t like, ‘Don’t eat.’ But she did come and film a segment with us about healthy food to eat,” Molly recalled, adding that there was a skewed perspective on the model’s sizes on ANTM. “The people who they would be like, ‘You’re plus size. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Disney Channel’s throwback movies are everything! Pixel Perfect, for one, premiered in January 2004 and immediately became a fan favorite flick. Starring Raviv Ullman, Leah Pipes, Porscha Coleman and Tania Gunadi, the movie followed the story of a teenager named Roscoe (Raviv) who tried to help his best friend Samantha’s (Leah) band — the Zetta Bytes — by creating a hologram of the perfect pop star to front the girl group. The talented hologram, Loretta, started to cause a rift in Roscoe and Samantha’s friendship when he started to develop romantic feelings for Loretta, despite her being part of a computer program. While most of the stars have since gone on to continue their acting careers, Spencer Redford — who played Loretta — has since stepped out of the spotlight. Following her role in the DCOM, the actress nabbed a few other roles, but hasn’t appeared on screen since 2007. It appears that she doesn’t have any social media, so it’s unclear exactly what the former star is up to now. Despite these actors having moved on from their Disney Channel days, fans are still able to rewatch Pixel Perfect on Disney+. Not to mention, the movie’s soundtrack has some seriously iconic songs, including “Nothing’s Wrong With Me,” “Notice Me,” “Get Real” and “When the Rain Falls.” Once you listen to these tunes, all the early 2000s memories will start flooding back. “It was a part of their childhood,” Raviv told E! News in Aril 2022 about fans still watching his Disney Channel movies and TV shows. “I look back on the shows that I grew up on and I know where I was when I was watching them. I would love to live that life now, go to school, come back, eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and watch my favorite TV shows.” When reflecting on his fame, the Phil of the Future alum explained that he “just wanted to work,” noting he was “never consciously” trying to stray from Disney. Raviv added, “I look back at that time and, even though it is a centerpiece of my career at this point, it was one of many jobs that I’ve done over, you know, the 25 years that I’ve been working in the industry.” Scroll through our gallery to find out what the cast of Pixel Perfect is up to now. Hoda Kotb Offers a Sneak Peek into Her 'Amazing' Family Life in the Suburbs Following Her Departure from 'Today'

The mom of two shared a glimpse of her life in the suburbs with her daughters, Haley and Hope, after making an emotional exit from the long-running talk show. On Tuesday, January 14, Hoda posted some pictures and a video capturing her morning routine of dropping the kids off at school. “School drop!!! Let’s goooo!” she exclaimed in her post. Her fans were thrilled to witness Hoda finally getting the chance to see her children off to school in the morning. Haley, 8, wore a knit hat with her middle name, Joy, printed on it, while Hope, 5, was seen wearing a knit hat with her name printed on it. Hoda rocked a Today With Hoda & Jenna hat during the school drop off and had a huge smile on her face. She officially left the show on January 10 after 17 years. The family of three bundled up in winter coats to combat the frigid air in the suburbs of New York City. Hoda moved to her new quiet neighborhood with the girls last year after entering the “repotting” phase of her life. So far, it seems like their new home is everything they dreamed of and more, and boasts plenty of space for the family of three. “I love the term ‘repotting.’ It’s like you’re pulled up by your very roots, your foundation, everything that grounds you, and your roots are in the air and you’re scared. ‘Where am I going to land?’” the broadcaster told Today viewers late last year. She said that she learned the term “repotting” from longtime pal Maria Shriver, and it has been part of her vocabulary ever since. “Maria is my go-to person. You referred to it once as a ‘flat tire friend’ call—the one you reach out to when you're feeling low and lost, unsure of your next steps,” Hoda shared. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Thanks to Hoda Kotb's Instagram. Maria, 69, was one of the many celebrities who voiced their support for Hoda when she announced she would be leaving Today to spend more time with her children and start a career in the wellness space. "I'm incredibly proud of you... you listened to your instincts and pursued what you truly desired, despite your fears. ... It takes immense courage to let go of something you cherish and step into uncertainty," Maria said to Hoda. "It's truly courageous to believe, 'There's something greater waiting for me. I may not know what it is, but I'm ready to move forward.'" Hoda posted another update featuring pictures from the school drop-off on Thursday, January 16. She captioned it, “Just another typical… everyday… amazing day xo.” Who is your all-time favorite host of the 'Today' Show? In the photos, Haley and Hope were seen wearing ear muffs and coats as they headed to school drop-off, carrying their backpacks. "‘This is truly EVERYTHING. No paycheck can match the value of moments that are lost forever. PRICELESS! Hoda, this is all about prioritizing yourself and embracing love. You deserve it!’ a supporter commented." "This truly brings tears to my eyes. Even though I struggle to watch the show without you, this is the most heartwarming thing to see," remarked another individual. “Thank you for continuing to share your mornings w us! Wishing you & the girlies the loveliest day,” another comment said.

Wendy Williams Claims Diddy Faces Life Imprisonment: ‘There Are Secrets You’re Unaware Of’

You have no idea about the things I’ve learned about him from the past.'” Although Williams, 60, did not provide additional details, her relationship with Diddy, 55, has been tumultuous for many years. Their conflict began in 1998 when Williams was let go from her radio program on Hot 97. She attributed her dismissal to the music mogul, whom she had publicly criticized on several occasions during her broadcasts. "You know what? It's high time, everyone. It really is. Diddy is finished," she remarked on Thursday. View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Johnny Louis / Getty Images Diddy was arrested in September 2024 on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering and faces numerous accusations of sexual assault. He has pleaded not guilty and denied all the allegations against him. “We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” his attorney Marc Agnifilo told Us Weekly in a statement at the time of his indictment. “Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children and working to uplift the Black community.” “He may have his flaws, but he is certainly not a criminal,” he went on to say. “I must commend Mr. Combs for being fully cooperative throughout this investigation; in fact, he chose to move to New York last week in preparation for these charges. The top five most shocking guest controversies on Saturday Night Live as the show approaches its 50th anniversary.

2025-08-30 01:39:15

'The Jeffersons' at 50: The Impact of Norman Lear on Black Representation in Television

2025-08-23 22:57:14

Jim McKairnes  |  Special to USA TODAY At 11 seasons, “The Jeffersons” ran longer than any of producer Norman Lear’s classic 1970s comedies, including its parent show “All in the Family.” But the more important history it made came as soon as its first episode, 50 years ago this week: CBS' “The Jeffersons” marked the first Black-family comedy for which Black didn’t signal economic struggle.   George and Louise Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford) were plain rich. Credit the Black Panthers. At least, in part.  As racial barriers fell and onscreen representation increased in the early 1970s, the biggest gains were in half-hour comedies. Some of these “Black shows” ‒ a series adaptation of Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park,” military comedy “Roll Out” (from the creators of “M*A*S*H”), and barbershop sitcom “That’s My Mama” ‒ came and went. Two became giant hits: NBC’s “Sanford and Son” and CBS’ “Good Times.” But their tales of impoverished lives unfolding in famously Black neighborhoods ‒ the Sanfords were junk dealers in Los Angeles’ blighted Watts community, while “Good Times” was set in a Chicago housing project ‒ offered singular, even stereotypical, portraits: Two steps forward, one step back.   View pictures in App save up to 80% data. 'The Jeffersons' were elevating their status. “The Jeffersons” made its way into primetime to shake things up. The show followed the beloved neighbors of Archie and Edith Bunker as they reveled in the prosperity of their growing dry cleaning enterprise, swapping their modest Queens rowhouse for a lavish apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The challenges they faced were more about cultural adjustment than financial hardship, as the newly affluent sought to blend in with the established elite.   The spinoff became a certainty following Hemsley’s initial appearance in Season 4 of “All in the Family.” Louise Jefferson, played by Sanford, along with their son Lionel, portrayed by Mike Evans, had been recurring characters since 1971. However, Hemsley, who was envisioned by Lear as the head of the family, wasn't available until 1973.   In his 2014 memoir titled “Even This I Get To Experience,” Lear recounted how a chance meeting outside of the entertainment industry helped to accelerate the process.   How the Black Panthers Influenced a Television Family That Wasn't 'Dirt Poor' “One day, three representatives from the Black Panthers burst into my CBS office, declaring they were there to speak with the garbage man – me,” he recounted. “They criticized ‘Good Times,’ labeling it as trash. ‘It’s merely a white man’s interpretation of a Black family… every time you feature a Black man on television, he’s portrayed as impoverished.’”   “The Jeffersons” emerged as his answer. Following an unofficial first episode marked by a “Family” farewell, the show premiered midseason on January 18, 1975. Strategically placed in CBS' Saturday lineup, right after its successful predecessor, the new comedy quickly garnered a strong viewership. As George and Louise established their lives, audiences embraced them as well. By the end of the 1974-75 season, the show ranked as the fourth most-watched program.  “The Jeffersons” benefitted from a larger cast than seen in Lear’s other hits, too, allowing for more storylines to explore. Costars included Marla Gibbs as the Jeffersons’ housekeeper, Zara Cully as George’s live-in mother, Paul Benedict as their British neighbor, and Berlinda Tolbert as Lionel’s girlfriend (and later, wife), whose parents, played by Roxie Roker and Franklin Cover, made history as primetime’s first regularly featured interracial couple.   View pictures in App save up to 80% data. However, 'The Jeffersons' mostly steered clear of political themes. While early episodes addressed the social politics stirred by their move to Manhattan ‒ stories about identity, invoking terms like Uncle Toms and passing ‒ “The Jeffersons” didn’t court headlines the way “All in the Family” or Lear’s controversial “Maude” did. In time, race was less of a driver, and the show became a more conventional, often broad sitcom. Even the stridency of George Jefferson’s prejudice on display in “Family” ‒ the character, “imagined as a reflection of what (Archie) Bunker’s bigotry would look like in ‘blackface’” ‒ was toned down, wrote Mark Anthony Neal for Ebony in 2012. His boisterous persona was more comical than confrontational, a hot-air balloon of strutting pomposity punctured by his family.   Even the occasional “special episodes” ‒ Louise’s reflections on her less-affluent past, Lionel’s dip into alcohol abuse, George’s reunion with an old Navy pal, now a woman ‒ orbited more around the human condition than a racial one.   One notable exception: 1980’s “The First Store,” a flashback episode about Jefferson Cleaners opening on the same day in 1968 as Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination. After Lear’s 2023 death, The Hollywood Reporter included it as one of the “Six Norman Lear TV Episodes That Changed the World.”  The show was never nominated for Emmy Awards in writing or directing categories, and won just two in total, for videotape editing and for Sanford (the first black woman to win Best Comedy Actress). “The Jeffersons” was sometimes criticized in the Black community for perceived lapses into stereotypes, or for portraying George as a buffoon. (The Baltimore Sun’s Gregory Kane called it “demeaning to Black people” in a 1999 essay about race and television.) But the show facilitated a prime-time transition from “Black shows” to series that simply offered Black casts, cemented by the arrival of NBC’s “The Cosby Show” in 1984.  “Its characters opened doors for future black actors,” wrote Danielle Cadet in The Huffington Post after Hemsley’s 2012 death. “And its success proved that African American sitcoms did, in fact, resonate with general audiences.”  The resonance of “The Jeffersons,” which ended in 1985 after 253 episodes and 15 timeslot changes, stands as its legacy: the first Black sitcom since “Sanford and Son” (1972-77) to rank among TV’s top five shows, the first to rank as TV’s top comedy for a season (1981-82), CBS’ third-longest-running sitcom at the time of its cancellation and, still, the longest-running Black comedy in network-TV history. Lear restaged one episode in a live 2019 ABC special that featured Jamie Foxx and Wanda Sykes in the lead roles. After numerous attempts, “The Jeffersons” finally made it up that hill.

Evel Knievel of Montana: Leonardo DiCaprio Set to Star in New Biopic

View pictures in App save up to 80% data. Image Source: Getty Images Actor Leonardo DiCaprio already has several connections to Montana, and it seems he might be about to make another. Back in 2015, DiCaprio was spotted and photographed at Missoula's Caras Park. It was reported that he was in town for his friend, and fellow actor, Tobey Maguire's birthday party, according to the Missoulian. Leonardo DiCaprio also starred in The Revenant in 2015. The movie was set in Montana, but only a small part of the movie was filmed in Montana. The waterfall scenes were filmed at the Kootenai Falls in Libby. He won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in this movie. More recently, DiCaprio starred with Montana's Lily Gladstone in the critically acclaimed Killers of the Flower Moon. Now DiCaprio may get even more ties to Montana. It is being reported that he is set to play Montana's own Evel Knievel in an upcoming movie. According to World of Reel, some details emerging about the story. The movie is titled "Evel Knievel on Tour" and is written by William Monahan, who wrote "The Departed", and Terence Winter who wrote "Wolf of Wall Street", both of those movies starred DiCaprio. The film is set in 1974 and tells the story of Evel Knievel's planning to jump Idaho's Snake River Canyon on his motorcycle. Right now the movie is listed as "under development" according to Imdb.com. It would be cool if they would film some of the movie in Butte, Knievel's hometown. But if that doesn't happen, hopefully, they will at least film it in the location of the attempted jump, which is a tourist attraction in Southern Idaho. During his career, Evel Knievel reportedly broke 433 bones, earning him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the "survivor of the most broken bones in a lifetime", according to Wikipedia. My grandfather, an anesthesiologist in Montana, once worked with surgeons to repair some of those broken bones. When I was a kid my grandfather would joke that he actually "knocked Evel Knievel out". I can't wait to see what they do with this movie when it eventually comes out. While the Western neo-drama series is highly celebrated for its top-notch storyline and action-packed performances, it has also sparked its fair share of controversy. One notable moment came when a fan-favorite character’s political views became a hot-button issue for many fans. View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

The former Wendy Williams Show host offered up her prediction on Diddy’s fate in a Thursday, January 16, interview with Charlamagne tha God on “The Breakfast Club.” “She stated, 'Diddy is facing a life sentence, everyone. I urge you to hold off on your judgments until all the facts are presented. His actions reflect those of an innocent individual who has nothing to conceal, and he is eager to vindicate himself in court.” View pictures in App save up to 80% data. You know how I feel about that? It is about time. To see this video on TV of [Cassie] getting pummeled … it was just horrific. But now you have to think, how many more times? How many people? Size landscape-average Tyla is known as one of the fastest-rising international stars in music. On Saturday (Jan. 4), the South African pop star clapped back at a fan who responded negatively to her most recent photos on the app formerly known as Twitter. In her first post, she uploaded photos from the beach along with the caption, “Feeling like a tourist in my own country.” A commenter replied, “Tyla, why don’t you just go naked in public if you dislike clothes so much?” She shot back, “Do you want me to wear a onesie at the beach? Shut up.” After apologizing, the commenter was met with a wave of criticism from other social media users, who were baffled as to why he would criticize her for simply wearing a bikini paired with a cover-up at the beach. Tyla has been viral since her inception into the music industry. After her success with “Water” on social media, her presence and influence skyrocketed, breaking the “one-hit wonder” speculations online. Her debut album Tyla boasted multiple successful songs including “Jump,” “PUSH 2 START” and “Truth or Dare.” She has worked with artists such as Tems, Gunna, Skillibeng, Travis Scott, Becky G and more. In a September interview with ELLE Magazine, she explained, “Initially, I used to care. Recently I’ve just been feeling [like], ‘They’re gonna say what they wanna say, and it doesn’t even matter because I know it’s not that,’” when addressing her feelings towards critics. In the later part of the interview, when discussing her swift rise in her career, she remarked, “I’m deeply engaged in all aspects of my work: my sound, my visual presentation, my fashion choices, and my overall appearance. These elements are significant and must resonate with my emotions, as they are interconnected with my music. Ultimately, I consider myself an artist first and foremost. Modeling is something I do, but it's more of a secondary pursuit.”

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997 - 2003) Joss Whedon’s horror/comedy cult classic found a second life as a seven-season TV series, with Sarah Michelle Gellar embodying a more grounded incarnation of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The David Boreanaz-led offshoot from Buffy the Vampire Slayer was cut short at the end of Season 5, despite co-star James Marsters noting Angel’s huge audience spike.

'The Jeffersons' at 50: The Impact of Norman Lear on Black Representation in Television

2025-08-21 06:10:52
